Starting a New Project at the CNF

  1. If starting a new project, the first step is to contact one of our User Program Managers, Chris Alpha or Michael Skvarla, at userprogram@cnf.cornell.edu, and outline for them your research idea(s). They have many years experience working with CNF users. They can advise you on the feasibility of your proposed project, and can usually give you an accurate time line and cost estimate.

  2. Upon this initial contact, the PI will be asked to submit a brief (2 page) Project Proposal. External project proposals also require a signoff by a corporate officer at your institution or company.

  3. Users external to Cornell without a Cornell netid need to obtain a Cornell GuestID . Users external to Cornell with an inactive Cornell netid need to first email CNF Computing to reactivate their netid.

  4. Once the Project Proposal is accepted and the user has an active netid or guestid, the user will need to fill out a New User Application. Cornell Users should fill out the New User Application - Cornell.  Users external to Cornell need to fill out the New User Application - External, a liability form which must be signed by a corporate officer in your organization. Both of these PDF forms need to be filled out before submitting them electronically, as well as printing them and obtaining the proper signatures for the Fill and Print PDF versions.
