Get ready to embark on a journey into the realm of science and technology as CNF proudly announces its involvement in Cornell University's renowned Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) program, set to take place at Barton Hall on April 6, 2024
EYH serves as one of CNF's grandest outreach events of the year, offering students an unparalleled opportunity to delve into the captivating worlds of mathematics and science through engaging, hands-on STEM activities.
Since its inception in 1988 Cornell graduate students and faculty have been spearheading the EYH program, igniting the spark of curiosity among young minds, paving the way for future generations of STEM enthusiasts. The program consists of a dynamic one-day conference, packed with events designed to bridge curious 7th to 10th grade students with industry level science. Participants can look forward to comprehensive tours of university's state-of-the-art laboratories, exciting workshops, invaluable networking opportunities with their peers and STEM professionals, and a keynote speech by a prominent female scientist. The conference also includes a session for adults to learn about STEM related educational and career opportunities they can expose their youth to.
CNF's participation in EYH offers an exhilarating opportunity to introduce numerous young individuals to the nanofabrication industry, potentially paving the way for future workforce expansion in the field. At this year’s EYH program, CNF will host two junior groups on the Junior Scientist Track in Duffield Atrium where they will receive a brief introduction to micro and nanofabrication as well as a live virtual tour of CNF's cutting-edge cleanroom facilities. All EYH participants will be able visit CNF’s tables in Barton Hall where they can experience the cleanroom virtually, and create their own wearable UV radiation detector using photochromic beads and transfer their design to photo-active paper using ultraviolet light. This technique, called photolithography, is a crucial aspect of the semiconductor industry, and students will be able to experience, hands-on, how scientists fabricate computer chips, smartphones, and the devices of the future like nanorobots.
